CHINA POLYMER HANDLING GETS OFF TO SUCCESSFUL START

The last few months have been amongst the most successful in the relatively short history of the Kerry-TALKE joint venture. Handling of the plastic granule s produce d in China, the Middle East and other parts of Asia has become one of the most important areas of business.

It took General Manager Kevin Loyens and his team just a few weeks to secure several contracts with prestigious clients for the import of plastics.

With a network of at least eight hubs, the Kerry-TALKE joint venture covers the whole of the East China region, from north to south, with locations for import handling, storage and distribution to all the main processing regions of The People’s Republic.

China becoming increasingly significan

China continues its drive for growth. Kerry-TALKE is also keen to respond to the trend for increased imports and greater inland transportation. Kevin Loyens said of the plans: “Alongside our hubs, we are also working very hard to develop various models for the optimum transportation of loose and packaged goods in China. The countrywide Kerry network offers us considerable advantages that we can use to gain a market edge on our competitors while benefiting our customers.”

Initial steps have already been taken. The company has opened a multi-user logistics centre in Waigaogiao, the free-trade area of Shanghai. A bagging line operating at 25 tones per hour, several warehouses and a container terminal measuring 80,000 m2 offer comprehensive solutions for handling, packaging and distribution. After initial test runs have been completed, the concept behind this facility is set for transfer to other locations in China.
