Kerry-TALKE Chemical Logistics (Shanghai) have made important investments to support their key clients in the petrochemical industry in improving their supply chain when importing plastics into mainland China.

In a pioneering move, Kerry-TALKE has installed their first state-of-the-art bagging machine for packaging plastics in one of their locations in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone area of the Shanghai Port. The machine packages plastic granules, arriving in bulk in special liners inside traditional sea-going containers.

“Shipping in bulk from production facilities, particularly in the Middle East, The US and South East Asia, enables our clients to increase their payload, whilst bringing their product closer to the receiving market, before making a final decision on the packaging mode,” said Kevin Loyens, General Manager, Kerry-TALKE.

Shanghai was chosen as the best location for the first packaging line but future developments could entail similar lines in any of the 8 hubs that Kerry-TALKE is already operating in China.

The company sees the delayed decision on packaging as an important factor in the development of bulk deliveries to Chinese receivers, ultimately reducing the use of packaging materials. In order to develop this market, Kerry-TALKE is offering support to their clients in the supply, installation and inventory management of bulk storage silos.

“The growth of bulk polymer deliveries in China is inevitable but requires an element of mindset change, supported by the required logistical infrastructure and equipment.
